BMO

Opening a scam complaint at BMO, and what a written file needs before anyone argues about a refund.

BMO complaints can start in online banking or by telephone. If a branch asks you to explain it in person, take a one-page timeline with you.

What to ask BMO to do

  • Treat the report as a fraud complaint, not only as a general question.
  • Tell you the payee name their system showed, if one was shown.
  • Say whether any in-app or telephone warning was displayed or read out.
  • Send a written final response. If 56 days pass with no resolution, you can take the complaint to the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments.

What we add

We turn the chat, the receipts, and the warning story into one complaint. If BMO refunds you, our fee is invoiced from that recovery. If they refuse, or the file stalls, the next step is usually OBSI. The route is the same for every bank. The facts are not.

BMO asked me to start again in a branch. The funds were returned after that complaint closed.

BMO paid the money back. The only bill afterwards was the fee on the page.

Nothing on this page is a statement about BMO’s current fraud policy. It is the complaint path a customer can use. OBSI is free to use, and you do not need us to go there.
